Capt. Thomas E. Baxter, Sr., age 98, a resident of Port Arthur, TX, passed away on
October 21 ,2017. He was born March 2, 1919 to Thomas H. and Ora Boykin Baxter of Jacksonville, TX. Known as Tommy to family and friends, he served his country in the United States Army, serving in the Military Police, and retired from the Port Arthur police department as a Captain with 40 years of service. After Captain Baxter’s retirement He served as Chief of Police for Griffin Park. Captain Baxter was also a Master Mason and longtime member of the Procter Street Church of Christ.
Tommy was preceded in death by his wife Alice Lorraine Baxter; son, Thomas Baxter Jr.; grandson, Brian Baxter and Sue Shields. He is survived by daughter, Karen Thompson and spouse Ronnie Thompson and Robert Anthony (Tony) Baxter and spouse Pamela Baxter, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
The gathering of family and friends to share and Celebrate the Life of Capt. Baxter will begin at 9:00AM on Friday, October27, 2017 in the chapel of Grammier – Oberle Funeral Home, A Memorial Service honoring his Life will begin at 10:00AM. The Committal Service will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park with Masonic Rites and full Police Honors.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to be offered to one’s favorite charity.
