SABINE PASS — The Sharks’ basketball season is going in an upward direction, and Daniel Sam was not interested in changing that.

Sabine Pass (5-3) has won three straight.

Sam finished with 27 points, hitting 10 of 16 from the floor. But he struggled at the foul line, going 4 for 11 in the game, including 2 of 6 in the first quarter and 0-2 in the second half.

Sam now averages 29 points, six rebounds and three steals per game.

Legacy Christian (2-7), led by Nederland graduate and first-year coach Jeromie Grammer, dug out of a 14-8 hole to lead 21-19 at haftime. The score was 37-all at the end of regulation.

Harold James had 11 points and four assists for Sabine Pass. Roderick Howard led Legacy with 18 points, and Forrest Holifield added 14.

Sabine Pass will host Hamshire-Fannett on Friday.

GIRLS

Livingston 44, Memorial 37

LIVINGSTON — Julia Sion shot 8 of 14 from the floor and finished with 17 points, but Port Arthur Memorial (3-9, 1-1) suffered its first District 22-5A defeat, coming off a one-week break.

Dakayla Miller and Jackie Gibbs each added seven points for the Titans, who visit Vidor on Friday.

Lumberton 58, PNG 42

PORT NECHES — Playing the second of a three-game home stand, the Indians missed some short-range shots and did not nearly go to the line as often as the Raiders did, as Lumberton took a 16-point victory.

Lumberton (13-6, 2-0 in 22-5A) made 16 of 32 free throws, while PNG (7-8, 0-2) made 5 of 8. But Harlee Barnwell led the Indians with 12 points and six rebounds, Holly Jones scored seven points and made two steals, and Mollee Priddy and Julissa Gomez each scored six points. Gomez had three steals.

“Kids are playing well defensively, just not taking care of the ball on offense,” PNG coach Kara Skinner said. “We are young and it will come. Still seeing some good things from our kids; we just have to put it all together for a whole game.”
