Woman life flighted to Beaumont after major accident at Winnie exit

A major accident between two vehicles resulted in one woman being life flighted to Beaumont.

Lt. Bubba Blitch with the Port Arthur Police Department said they received a report of the accident at 2:42 p.m. on Monday at the Winnie exit on Highway 73 westbound, off of Highway 69 southbound.

An 18-wheeler was behind a pickup truck. The 18-wheeler then rolled over the pickup truck’s bed. A women who was driving the pickup was life flighted to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. She was later reported to be in stable condition.

The 18-wheeler was carrying sulfur. Thewre was no leakage. The driver was cited for inattentive driving.

Firefighters with the Port Arthur Fire Department and a couple of units from the PAPD were still cleaning the scene at 7 p.m. to later reopen the exit.
