Modestine Bean Hill

Modestine Bean Hill, 89, quietly passed away in Denton, TX, on January 5, 2018, with her husband of 64 years at her side.   She had been a patient at Corinth Rehabilitation Center since residing there after the destruction of Hurricane Harvey.

A native of Port Arthur, Mrs. Hill was born on February 29, 1928, and raised by her parents Euphemia Bean and Reuben Hibbler.  After graduation from Lincoln High School, she would further her education at Bishop College earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1953 she was employed by PAISD as a social studies teacher at Lincoln, her alma mater.

She met and married on April 4, 1953, the love of her life Joe Hill who shared her life until her death.

She continued her education at Texas Woman’s University, North Texas State and Prairie View A&M Universities, earning her Master of Arts Degree and certification in school counseling. She was also a certified educational diagnostician. Mrs. Hill, serving the district for 37 years, received numerous honors and recognition for excellence in teaching and service.

At an early age, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and united with Sixth Street Baptist Church, later Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, where she was an active member for 50 years. Mrs. Hill was an avid reader, devoting much of her time to the study of God’s word. She taught Sunday School and was a bible study instructor along with her husband Joe. Many of her students treasure fond memories of her lessons that still impact their lives.

After a period of time, she changed membership to Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where she and her husband continued their ministry of bible teaching and were active in the Golden Years Ministry. Her unwavering involvement will be greatly missed. She was a member of several community bible study organizations.

Mrs. Hill was a long-standing member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and a founding member of the Child Service League. She willingly tutored several students within the district.

Preceding her in death were her parents and beloved brother-in-law Herman Alexander.

Mourning the loss of her presence but hopeful of their heavenly reunion are her husband Joe; sister Earnestine Alexander; cousin Kirk Booker, Sr. (Glenda) of Orange, TX; her beloved nieces and nephews; her dear friends Beatrice Branch; Kirk and Sherry Vital; and Raymond and Jean Johnson. Also, grieving her death is the individual who dedicated her time and service to her care Trinette “Tee” Rose and her family.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 12, 2018 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church
