Orange County collision sends deputy, Groves man to hospital

An Orange County deputy was taken to St. Elizabeth’s hospital Tuesday evening after his patrol vehicle was in collision with a pickup truck on Highway 62, west of Pinehurst.

Sgt. Stephanie Davis, Texas Department of Public Safety, said the crash occurred at 7:15 p.m. near Tulane Road.

An issued statement from DPS said, “Preliminary reports indicate that an Orange County Sheriff Deputy was traveling northbound on Highway 62 in a marked patrol unit. The driver of a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck pulled out from a parking lot in the path of the patrol vehicle. The patrol car struck the pickup truck in the passenger door.”

DPS said the Orange County Sheriff deputy was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s. His injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Clifton Walker, 59, of Groves, was also transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital.  His injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

This crash remains under investigation and there are no further details to be released at this time.
