Staff Report
An errant driver in a runaway truck crashed into the general aviation terminal at Jack Brooks Airport early Thursday.
The Department of Public Safety said in an issued release that a 2014 Dodge Ram was headed west at an unsafe speed on Jerry Ware Road near the terminal at 5 a.m. when the driver lost control and struck the building.
Kyle Martin Stelly of Vidor, the driver, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries, DPS said.
A blood sample was taken from Stelly and toxicology results were pending, according to DPS.
Airport Director Alex Rupp said the offices were unoccupied at the time of the accident and there were no injuries among airport staff.
As a result of the accident, phones and computers at Airport Travel Agency would be down through Monday.
