PA child safe after abduction

Detectives with the Port Arthur Police Department are interviewing a person of interest the abduction of a 6-year-old girl.

The child was playing in the Rampart Apartment complex, 1728 Village East, and was discovered missing at 8:35 p.m. Sunday. Ten minutes later, police received a call from a concerned citizen who saw a girl unaccompanied by any adults in the 1900 block of Stadium Road. PAPD Det. Mike Hebert said that several people who saw the child made sure she was ok and made the call.

“She seemed to be in good health and was able to give investigators pertinent information of what took place,” Hebert said. “Subsequently, a vehicle was located and a person of interest located and is currently being interviewed by Port Arthur Police.”

Hebert said the child is OK and that the person of interest is not related to the child and was located in the city.

The incident remains under investigation.
