Shirley Miguez Hawthorne

Shirley Beatrice Hawthorne of Port Arthur, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Collier Park Assisted Living in Beaumont, Texas. Shirley was born October 18, 1929 in Port Arthur, Texas.
Shirley grew up in Port Acres, Texas and was a 1947 graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School. She was a member of the “Fighting Eagles High School Band”. She had the honor of having a street in Port Acres named after her. She loved and was proud of the Community of Port Acres and enjoyed working in local politics.
During her life Shirley worked at many jobs that she enjoyed. After many years of serving as a teacher assistant with the PAISD, she retired to spend more time with her family.
Being a devoted Christian, Shirley enjoyed teaching the young adults and the youth in Sunday school. She also enjoyed being V.B.S. director for many years. Shirley was also President of the P.T.A. for many years.
Shirley was a devoted wife, loving mother, honored grandmother and great-grandmother.
Preceded in death by son, David “Davey” Hawthorne; and husband David “Chief” Hawthorne of 51 years. Shirley is survived by her two sons, Lanny Hawthorne and wife Nicole, Jack Hawthorne and her daughter, Melody Chronister and husband Don; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Shirley was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, 2208 Canal Street in Port Acres. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church and the funeral service will be July 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist, with graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas.
