Elizabeth Keever Norris

Elizabeth Keever Norris, 91, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 after a thirteen-year illness with dementia.   Born in Temple, Texas on December 2, 1926 she was a resident of Port Arthur for the past 91 years.  Elizabeth graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and obtained a degree from Port Arthur Business College.  Shortly thereafter she started a life long career with Gulf Oil Corporation retiring in 1986.

Elizabeth was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church until her illness thirteen years ago, a volunteer in civic activities and was an avid bridge player.

She was preceded in death by husband Howard Joseph Norris, her parents, Robert Eldon Keever and Annie Agnes Honeycutt and her younger brother, Jack Elton Keever.

She is survived by daughter Jan N. Knecht and husband Ronald Cyril Knecht, Jr.; two grandchildren, Christina Knecht Hutchinson and husband Dallas, Ronald Cyril Knecht III and wife Kristen; three great grandchildren, Aaron Christian Hatcher, Taylor Grace Hatcher, and Ronald Cyril Knecht IV (RC), all of Kingwood, Texas; older brother Thelbert Eldon Keever of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law Cynthia P. Keever of Austin, Texas and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks, love and prayers to Cora Carter, Margaret Jones, Ida Swan, Tammy Swan, Lorraine Pegross, Willie Mae Lewis, and Mattie Warren who provided Elizabeth with loving care for the past thirteen years.  Also, love and thanks to Deborah Cormier for her tireless efforts to lead the restoration of Elizabeth’s home from the flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey and Chris Cormier for his hard work in taking care of Elizabeth’s home and yard these past years.

And with sincere thanks and love the family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for Southeast Texas Hospice especially Brenda Honeycutt, director of patient services, Dr. Michael Nancy Amsden and all the nurses for their care for the past few weeks.

Friends and acquaintances of the family are respectively invited to the visitation and funeral services on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of funeral services which will start at 11:00 a.m.  Internment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

After internment all are invited to lunch at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home for a final celebration of Elizabeth’s life.
