VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals place Thomas on preseason All-Southland

Lamar senior Tomar Thomas was placed on the preseason All-Southland Conference second team, the conference announced Thursday.
Thomas, of Houston, started 22 matches and was second in the Southland in kills per set with 3.66. She totaled 282 for the season and averaged 9.94 attacks per set.
Each of the preseason All-Southland selections except for Floridian Kaitlyn Grice of New Orleans come from a Texas hometown.
Lamar will begin the season at the Jacksonville (Alabama) State tournament taking on Mercer and Jacksonville State on Aug. 24 and Little Rock on Aug. 25. The Cardinals will open their home slate with the Cardinal Classic and a match against Texas Southern at 7 p.m. Aug. 30.
