Behind Kaitlyn Gil’s 40 kills in three two-set matches, Port Neches-Groves was determined to get to its 10th volleyball victory of the season Thursday.

PNG started its run in the Dickinson tournament beating Pasadena Dobie 25-3, 25-13 but ran into Clear Brook and took a 25-19, 26-24 defeat. PNG then bounced back to beat Goose Creek Memorial 25-12, 25-23.

Liz Bolyard made 16 kills and Layla Stansbury added seven for the Rock-A-Noos (10-1). Kassidee Sartin led them in service points with 29, and Stansbury served seven.

Harlee Barnwell led PNG’s defensive effort with 16, Halley Smith had 14, Gil 12 and Bayja Newby 10. Maylin Louvier, Gil and Stansbury each blocked two shots.

PNG will visit Galveston Ball today and return to the Dickinson tournament on Saturday.

Also at the Dickinson tournament, Nederland overcame a 25-15, 25-18 loss to Alvin to beat Danbury 25-20, 25-14 and Alief Elsik 25-21, 25-14.

No statistics were provided. Nederland (3-10) will host Kelly this evening and resume play in Dickinson at 10 a.m. Saturday against Angleton.
