PORT NECHES — Two men have been arrested after a keen-eyed citizen reported a car burglary in process in the Ridgewood Addition of Port Neches on Thursday.

The call came in about 1 a.m. and officers were sent to the 600 block of Birchwood, where they were told that several people were on foot checking car doors in the neighborhood, Port Neches Police Capt. Jesse Fournet said. The vehicles that were burglarized were left unlocked.

An officer noticed a white passenger car leaving the area when he arrived and stopped the car, noting several backpacks and tools in plain view in the back seat.

The driver then made a statement about the burglaries indicating he was with two other people.

Officers from Port Neches, Nederland and Groves assisted in setting up a perimeter and a second person was apprehended at a convenience store at Twin City Highway and Jimmy Johnson Boulevard. The suspect’s jeans, Fournet said, was covered in wet grass. In addition, the suspect had left his ID in the car that had been stopped by Goodwin.

Both subjects were arrested for burglary of a vehicle and taken to the Jefferson County Jail.

The third suspect has not yet been identified and detectives are investigating leads.
