Morning wreck toll on I-10 in Orange: injuries, traffic delays

A three-vehicle wreck on Interstate 10 in Orange County early Saturday sent six people to the hospital and caused four hours of delay on the roadway.
The Department of Public Safety said the collision occurred around 3:45 a.m. on the Purple Heart Bridge when an eastbound Chrysler van collided with a westbound Toyota Corolla After that initial, head-on collision, the van was struck by a westbound commercial motor vehicle hauler. The commercial vehicle jackknifed, blocking the westbound lanes.
DPS said initial reports said Michelle Rodriguez, 44, of Orange, was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s with serious injuries. Jose Portillo of Houston, driver of the Toyota and his two passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. Ramon Perez of Florida, driver of the commercial vehicle, and his passenger were taken to a hospital for observation.
All I-10 westbound traffic lanes near Rose City, were closed for about four hours.
