BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Titans go 4-1, win Silver bracket

Nate Clover’s 18 points and five blocks led the way for Memorial in a 68-51 victory over Fort Bend Kempner at the Carlisle-Krueger Classic in Houston on Saturday.
With the win, Memorial (6-4) won the Silver bracket title and finished the three-day tournament winning four of five games.
Kenneth Lofton Jr. had 12 points, Jaden Conner scored nine and Steven Wilson added eight for Port Arthur Memorial. The Titans beat Houston Milby, lost to Houston Memorial, beat Clear Brook and defeated Rosenberg Terry in the tournament as well.
PA Memorial will host Hardin-Jefferson on Tuesday.
PNG 49, Vidor 48, OT
Drake Rojas banked in a 35-foot shot at the buzzer to give Port Neches-Groves a 49-48 overtime win over Vidor in the Silver bracket final of the Bulldog/YMBL Classic on Saturday.
Rojas scored five of the Indians’ seven points in overtime and 16 of his 18 points after the first half. Nine of those came in the third quarter, when PNG trailed 34-33. Vidor led 23-18 at halftime.
Tracy Smith led the Indians with 20 points, and Jackson Simmons added eight.
Hunter Messina scored all six of Vidor’s overtime points and finished with 19 points. Gavin Jarrell also scored 15 for the Pirates.
Grace Baptist (Miss.) 52, PNG 42
In the Nederland/YMBL Classic Silver bracket final, Ocean Springs, Mississippi-based Grace Baptist Academy held PNG to three points in the second quarter of a 10-point win.
Grace led 28-16 at the half and did not look back.
Noah Marchak led PNG (4-3) with 14 points. Smith, who was named to the all-tournament team, scored 12 while Simmons and Rojas each scored seven.
PNG 69, Kelly 64 (Fri.)
Tracy Smith rose and shone ready to take the Montagne Center court.
Smith had 16 of his game-high 37 points in the first quarter, and that proved enough for Port Neches-Groves in taking a 69-64 win over Kelly on Friday in the Nederland/YMBL Classic.
PNG vs. Kelly was the first of four games held at Lamar University’s arena, and Smith took the lead role in the opening act. Smith’s performance is the third 30-point or better game by an Indian this season; Drake Rojas has had games of 40 and 31 points.
Rojas scored 11 Friday, making 5 of 6 free throws in the second half. Noah Marchak had 13 points in the win.
Asaad Bodden led the Bulldogs with 23 points, and David Ray Jr. scored 12 and Jadarian Dixon had 10. The Bulldogs lost to the Indians for the second time this week.
Nederland 49, Sharpstown 28 (Fri.)
Nederland advanced to the Gold bracket semifinal of the Bulldog/YMBL Classic, riding a 22-point effort from Hayden Hefner and 11-point performance from Cedric Pete.
Nederland 70, Alvin 14 (Thu.)
The host Bulldogs shut out the Yellowjackets 21-0 in the first quarter, en route to a 56-point blowout in the Thursday nightcap at the Dog Dome.
Tyler Jackson scored 19 points, Hayden Hefner had 18 and Cedric Pete threw in 10 for the Bulldogs (4-2), who were to play Houston Sharpstown later Friday at the Montagne Center.
West Brook 80, PNG 41 (Thu.)
In the Nederland/YMBL Classic at Beaumont, Andre Boutte’s West Brook team came out firing in the first half and led 47-22 at halftime.
The Bruins knocked down 12 three-point baskets. Forrest Holifield (18 points) had six of them and Ja’Quan Yates (22 points) nailed four.
Drake Rojas led PNG with 16 points.
Vidor 53, Bridge City 32 (Thu.)
In the Nederland/YMBL Classic at Beaumont, Gavin Jarrell’s 19 matched a game high as Vidor beat Bridge City.
Grant Boudreaux led Bridge City (4-2) with 19 points.
GIRLS
Memorial 46, FB Marshall 32 (Fri.)
In the Stafford tournament, Julia Sion hit 5 of 8 from the field and led the way with 13 points in the Titans’ win over Fort Bend Marshall.
Denisha Anderson and Kaila Jackson added six in the win. The two combined to shoot 6 for 6 in free throws.
Beaumont United 47, Memorial 26 (Fri.)
In Stafford, Anderson had 10 points, but the Timberwolves earned a spot in the championship game after beating the Titans (5-5) by 21.
Marceya Scott and Sion each had six in the loss.
PNG 67, Good Samaritan Fellowship 8 (Fri.)
In the Evadale tournament, Maylin Stampley and Mollee Priddy combined for 11 steals, and the Indians (8-2) advanced to the championship round with a 59-point rout.
Stampley had 20 points, and Priddy came up with 11 points and six steals. Chelsea Carrillo added 10 points and Shelby Letulle had eight.
PNG will take on East Chambers or Southwest Louisiana at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Memorial 51, Sharpstown 5 (Thu.)
In the Stafford tournament, Memorial held Houston Sharpstown to a single point before halftime and cruised to an easy win.
Eleven of the 12 Memorial players who participated scored, led by Scott’s nine points. Dakayla Miller, LaKorian Fontenet and Jackson each had six points.
Memorial 42, Willowridge 31 (Thu.)
In Stafford, Jacqualyn Gibbs’ 11 points and Denisha Anderson’s 10 led the Titans to a second win Thursday.
Memorial raced to a 14-3 first-quarter lead and went on a 10-2 run to build a 36-22 lead through the third quarter.
PNG 48, West Orange-Stark 34 (Thu.)
In Evadale, Priddy and Carrillo each scored 12 points in the Indians’ 14-point win.
Priddy had seven rebounds and four assists. Carrillo finished with four rebounds, as did Stampley (11 points, two assists).
PNG 41, LCM 33 (Thu.)
In Evadale, Carrillo had 21 points and 13 rebounds in leading the Indians to another win after trailing Little Cypress-Mauriceville by 13 points.
Julissa Gomez (seven points, five rebounds) and Priddy (six points, three rebounds) turned in key performances as well.
PNG coach Kara Skinner said solid post play by Gomez and Carrillo got the Indians going. They managed to hold the Bears scoreless in the second quarter.
