Bossier Parish Community College was picked last in the East Zone of NJCAA Region XIV, but the Cavaliers have yet to lose.

Four double-digit scorers helped the Cavs shoot better than 50 percent from the floor as they handed Lamar State College Port Arthur its first region defeat, 96-91, at the Carl Parker Center on Saturday.

The Seahawks (7-4, 1-1 in Region XIV) saw a four-game winning streak end in their final home game until Dec. 30 when they host a New Year’s Classic. They have one more game before the lengthy holiday break, Wednesday at Panola College in Carthage.

Memorial graduate Jamyus Jones scored 15 of his team-high 21 points in the second half for the Seahawks. The reserve guard was 4 for 9 from three-point range, an area where the Seahawks (14 for 29, 48.3 percent) found success.

Lamar State led by as much as 10-2 with 16:51 left in the first half and Jones made a three to put the Seahawks up 36-31 with 1:37 to go. That’s where the Cavaliers (7-0, 1-0) changed things, knotting the game at 36-all at the break and scoring nine unanswered into the second half.

Bossier Parish shot 59.4 percent (19 for 32) from the floor in the final 20 minutes after making 42.4 percent (14 for 33). Lamar State ranked seventh in the NJCAA in field-goal defense (35.8 percent) and overall defense allowing 60.9 points per game before Saturday, but the Cavs nearly matched that in the second half alone.

The Cavaliers found success attacking the rim and getting second-chance opportunities as the game wore on, leading by as much as 74-58 with 6:26 to go. The Seahawks, who committed 21 turnovers to the Cavs’ 11, managed to creep back in the game getting to the foul line and connecting to hit from long range.

Terrance Minor made 4 for 5 from the perimeter and led Lamar State with 15 points. Nathan Bailey had 12 points, and Devaughn Thomas scored 10 in the loss.

Mikail Simmons scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds for Bossier Parish. Eric Parrish had 19 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals; and Erie Olonade and Jason Holliday each totaled 18 points.
