BOXING: PA teen chases national gold (with link to stream)

Tayvien Alpough of Port Arthur hopes to bring USA gold to the city.

The 16-year-old will take on second-seeded Jesus Haro of Merced, California, in the 101-pound Youth Men division of the USA Boxing national championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, starting at 7 p.m. Central (6 p.m. Mountain) tonight. The winner will take on top-seeded Keith Burroughs of Oxon Hill, Maryland, or Javier Gama of West Haven, Utah.

The match will be streamed live on YouTube on one of four streams, one for each ring at the championships. The title bout will be at 7 p.m. Central Saturday.

Alpough’s older brother Luke, 17, fought on Tuesday in the 123-pound Youth Men bracket. He beat Dionicio Martinez of San Antonio but lost Montana Perez of Dauphin, Pennsylvania.

Results of the matches (score or how fight ended) were not available.

The Alpoughs train out of the Lionhearted Boxing Academy in Port Arthur.
