Here’s a free Christmas gift from the Museum of the Gulf Coast: Family Fun Day on Saturday.
Museum director Tom Neal said the event — it is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — will give Greater Port Arthur families and other visitors the opportunity to enjoy a free and event-filled trip to the museum, located at 700 Procter St., Port Arthur.
“There are still people struggling in the aftermath of Harvey,” Neal said, referring to hurricane and tropical storm that flooded the community with up to 60 inches of rain in August 2017. “This will give them a chance to have an outing and to do something different with their families.”
Among special treats planned Saturday: “Chase,” a character on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon “Paw Patrol,” will be available for photos. La Costa Dental, which has provided other, various “mascot” type characters at the museum’s Fun Days, is the sponsor for the character’s appearance. In the past, La Costa Dental has provided Mickey Mouse, a Minion and Poppy the Troll at museum events.
The Snake Education Experience — popular in Southeast Texas — will also do a presentation. The husband-wife team will bring their reptile friends to the first-floor gallery that is featuring the Ed Holder exhibition on the great outdoors.
The museum drew a record-setting crowd of 810 to its Oct. 6 Family Fun Day. That crowd shattered the previous record crowd of 577 at the 2017 Christmas Family Fun Day.
There will be photos with Santa — participants can download one free digital copy per family — holiday arts and crafts, and carolers.
