Woodville Police Captain Mike McCulley said the 2007 Hyundai sedan was traveling southbound when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit multiple telephone poles.

McCulley said the initial report indicated some of the passengers were wearing seatbelts and some were not.

Nederland ISD released a statement Monday.

“We are deeply saddened to inform you that three of our former students have tragically died in an automobile accident early this morning along with one former student being injured,” the statement read. “We extend our deepest condolences to their family and friends.”

NISD Education/Communication Coordinator Rene Latiola said the three students did not attend a school in the district currently, but were enrolled at one point.

Latiola said the counselors were on campus to help any student that needs it.
