Police said the two were there with two other adults and four “very young children” to purchase drugs from Manning.

“Sometime during their dealings, words were exchanged and Manning opted to shoot the victim,” police said in an issued statement. The shooting was reported at 4:37 p.m.

Police said the victim was shot several “multiple times” but was alert and talked with first responders. He was taken to the hospital and into surgery but was expected to recover.

Police said they had a description of the suspect’s vehicle and stopped the car on Magnolia Street. Manning was the driver.

Manning was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Gun and drug-related charges were pending.

Manning was booked into the Jefferson County jail at 8:45 p.m. No bond was set Wednesday morning.
