Staff report
An elderly man was killed Thursday night after a hit-and-run driver was in collision with his bicycle on Memorial Boulevard.
Police said in an issued statement that the victim — his name was not released, pending notification of family — sustained injuries shortly before 7 p.m. after he was struck by a northbound vehicle around the 2300 block.
“Evidence at the scene determined that a vehicle was traveling north and the victim was riding a bicycle across the highway,” police said, adding that the victim was “struck by the vehicle and the vehicle fled the accident scene.”
The victim, 76, was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The Port Arthur Police Criminal Investigations Division and the Advanced Accident Team responded and were assisting with the investigation.
