Suzanne “Suzie” Thornton Lane, peacefully took her final breath Sunday evening, December 16, 2018 in Angleton, Texas with her children at her side. She was born on October 12, 1946 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Fred Thornton and Dorothy Rose Simmons Thornton. She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and Lamar University – Beaumont. She resided in Southeast Texas for the majority of her life until 2007, when she moved to El Campo with her late husband and the love of her life, James “Jim” Noel Lane.
Suzie was a school teacher for nearly 30 years before she retired in 2011. Her love for people and history made her electric in the classroom and a favorite among her students.
A woman of many talents, Suzie was a writer, a teacher, a director, a seamstress, an artist, a pianist, a lover of musicals and a phenomenal story teller who loved traveling and spending time out on the water. She was known for her gregarious personality, free-spiritedness, and fierce loyalty to her family. More than anything, Suzie was most proud of her children, their spouses, and her 5 grandchildren who referred to her as “Nana.”
Suzie is leaving behind a legacy that will ask all who knew her to love each other deeply, to support family and friends with the purest intentions, to find the humor in even the saddest situations, and to remember that above all else, Jesus Christ is to be at the center of it all.
