BEAUMONT —A man has been arrested on two federal drug charges after a shooting that left his pregnant girlfriend and a 1-year-old child injured.

Anthony Madrid, 26, was inside the home in the 8700 block of Newfield in Beaumont when multiple people entered in what police said is an ongoing feud involving narcotics and illegal activity, according to a news release from Beaumont Police Department.

During the altercations, Madrid reportedly retrieved an AK style assault rifle, one of several illegal firearms in the home, and fired shots, which struck the woman and child. The subjects fled the area and Madrid called 911 then drove his girlfriend and child to a local hospital.

About 1.5 kilos of cocaine was found inside the home where the shooting occurred.

Police said he gave conflicting statements about the incident and that, coupled with his lengthy criminal history, led investigators to believe the incident stemmed from some type of narcotics or other illegal activity. Detectives found numerous pieces of evidence they believe indicates narcotics were being distributed out of the home.

Inside the home, investigators found two cases of liquid promethazine, about 1.5 kilos of cocaine, a large amount of cash and four firearms, two of which were stolen.

Beaumont Police detectives, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Administration have been working together to investigate the incident.

ATF agents, working with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, have charged Madrid with use of a firearm in a drug dealing act and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

He was arrested Thursday night and transported to Lasalle Corrections Facility on the two federal charges. Madrid is currently out on bond from a November 2018 Harris County arrest in which he was found to be in possession of 1 kilo of cocaine. He is also on parole and has served numerous sentences in state jail for drug possession.
Additional state charges are expected.
The mother and child are both listed in stable condition
