PREP ROUNDUP: Gregory’s 11 Ks lead Nederland in shutout win

Noah Gregory kept the Kelly bats guessing to the tune of 11 strikeouts, and Nederland evened its baseball record with a 4-0 win over the visiting Bulldogs on Tuesday.
Gregory allowed three hits and walked two in 5 2/3 innings. Landon Hiltz finished the game and held Kelly hitless.
Adam Roccaforte and Hiltz each had two hits in the win. Omar Mascorro and Rene Cunningham accounted for the other Nederland hits.
SOFTBALL
Nederland 18, Memorial 0, 3 inn.
In Port Arthur, Nederland only three innings.
In that short amount of time, the Bulldogs scored 18 runs on 11 hits and Sierra Wiltz held the Titans to a single hit in a District 21-5A opening rout.
Wiltz struck out five, and Harlee Brown batted 3 of 3 with four RBI for the Bulldogs (9-6, 1-0 in 21-5A). Destini Trahan was 2 for 4, while Brittany Taylor, Hannah Grumbles, Wiltz, Tori Morrison, Chaelyn Esquivel and Kallye Taylor accounted for the other hits. Allysa Collazo, Esquivel and Taylor each drove in two runs.
Lily Nguyen had the only loss for the Titans (0-1 in 21-5A).
BOYS SOCCER
PNG 2, Cleveland 1
In Cleveland, Johnny Alvarenga and Grant Pearson scored goals in PNG’s District 21-5A victory over the host Indians.
Isai Acosta made eight saves, and Mario Oceguera and Jason Lovejoy earned the assist for the visiting Indians.
Also Tuesday: Nederland defeated Barbers Hill in a shootout.
GIRLS SOCCER
Nederland 2, Barbers Hill 0
In Mont Belvieu, Meg Sheppard and Brynn Landry scored both of the Bulldogs’ goals in a District 21-5A victory.
Amber Borel earned the shutout for Nederland (16-1-2, 8-0 in 21-5A).
PNG 4, Cleveland 0
In Port Neches, lineup changes have steered the host Indians (12-3-6, 5-2 in 21-5A) in the right direction.
The result Tuesday: four different players each scored a goal, and two more each had an assist in a 21-5A shutout win.
Izzy Volk, Ariel Muller, Breeana Riggs and Kassandra Brown connected on goals. Kelsie Comeaux, Tori Cuthright, Muller and Riggs each made an assist.
