Robert Fontnette, Sr.

Robert Fontnette, Sr. was born June 20, 1929 in Loreauville, LA to the late Richard Fontnette and Pearlie Polk Fontnette. He was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 14, 2019 surrounded by his family. Robert moved to Port Arthur in 1947 and worked for the City of Griffing Park until the annexation with the City of Port Arthur, where he retired with over 30 plus years of service. On September 19, 1947 he was united in marriage to Gloria “Dorothy” Champ, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage before her death February 6, 1998. Robert was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church until his health failed.
A visitation is scheduled from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. with a Rosary at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with funeral services following with Fr. Anthony Afangide, MSP, officiating. Entombment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria “Dorothy” Fontnette and daughter, Brenda Fontnette Booker.
Robert leaves to cherish his memories a very devoted daughter, Rachel Fontnette Jacquet (Marcus) of Port Arthur, TX; four sons, Robert Jr (Renee’) of Arizona, Ronald (JoAnne) of St. Martinville, LA, Donald of Port Arthur, TX, and Kevin of Maine; sisters, Castille Orphe, Margaret Fontnette, Mary Elaine Green, and Prinella Benjamin; brothers, Floyd (Patricia) and Paul Herman (Mary) Fontnette; one son-in-law, Chester Booker, Sr.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
