McKINNEY — Lamar fired a team-low round of 290 (plus-2) in the final round of the Southland Conference Championships on Tuesday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Sam Houston State.

Despite opening the day facing a four-stroke deficit, Sam Houston State recorded two of the top three round of the tournament to post 889-896 victory over the Cardinals on the Par 72, 7,219-yard Stonebridge Ranch Country Club course.

The tournament was scheduled to be played over three days – 18 holes each day – but due to the threat of poor weather in the area the conference elected to play the final two rounds Tuesday.

The Cardinals finished the tournament with a three-round score of 301-305-290 – 896 (plus-32). Big Red landed four players within the leaderboard’s top 15, including two in the top five – Kevin Lee and Sam Dumez.

Both Dumez and Lee finished tied for fifth overall, but Lee posted the better final round. Lee ended the tournament with a three-round 76-75-71 – 222, while Dumez fired a 74-73-75 – 222. Freshman Hugo Hellman was just three strokes back of his teammates. The talented freshman carded a 75-79-71 – 225 to finish 11th overall.

Senior Eason Wang fired his best round of the tournament Tuesday afternoon with a two-over 73. He rallied to finish 15th overall with a three-round 77-78-73 – 228. Junior Cody Banack closed out the team’s scorecard with a 76-79-79 – 234 to finish tied for 27th.
