PGA TOUR: Landry, Cook tied for sixth in New Orleans

After making nine birdies in their first 11 holes Saturday to grab a share of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans lead, Andrew Landry and partner Austin Cook could manage only one more the rest of the way.

Their 62 left them into a tie for sixth at 197, needing to make up four shots in Sunday’s final round.

One of the teams Landry and his former Arkansas teammate must overcome is Lamar ex Justin Harding and Branden Grace. The South African duo shot 11-under-par 61 in the best-ball format, with Harding making six birdies on the back nine, and is outright third at 194.

Scott Stallings-Trey Mullinax, who shot 62 for 193, and Jon Rahm-Ryan Palmer (64-193) are the co-leaders.

The other teams with Southeast Texas ties faded into the pack. Chris Stroud-Jason Kokrak settled for 68 and dropped 15 places into a tie for 29th at 202. It was the exact same story for LU ex Shawn Stefani and Bill Hass, as they also settled for 68 to drop 13 places into a tie for 29th.

Landry and Cook, playing the back nine first, came out smoking. With the Port Neches-Groves ex rolling in five birdies from 10 through 18, he and Cook turned in 29.

Landry added one more birdie at No. 1 and Cook bagged another on the next hole to get them to nine under. But a Cook birdie at No. 4 was all they could muster on the way in.

Their 62 tied for the second low round of the day.

Though Landry and Cook are four behind, Sunday’s alternate-shot format often leads to big scoring swings. The Stallings-Mullinax duo, for instance, shot 70 in Friday’s alternate shot play while Rahm-Palmer fashed a 64.
