GROVES — Groves police are looking for at least three men who opened fire on a vehicle occupied by two women and two small children, sending glass inside with a bullet hitting a man nearby in the face.
The call to police came in at approximately 7:50 p.m. Tuesday at Beverly Place Apartments, 5307 Gulfway Drive.
Groves Police City Marshal Norman Reynolds Jr. said the vehicle was driving through the complex to another family member’s residence when the shooting occurred.
“There were at least three shooters judging by the evidence collected at the scene,” Reynolds said.
The broken glass struck the occupants of the vehicle and one woman was checked on at a hospital; her injuries were not serious.
He also said one of the children in the vehicle was as young as 2 but didn’t know the age of the other child.
The man that was shot in the face did not suffer life-threatening injuries but was transferred to a Houston hospital.
“There are no motives and no suspects known at this time,” Reynolds added.
According to police, other crimes have occurred at the complex before the shootings and they have received multiple calls from there.
On July 15, a 6-year-old boy was shot in the hip after a gunman fired at last 21 rounds into an apartment. The child was not fatally injured.
The area where Beverly Place Apartments sits includes two complexes with Beverly Place at the rear and Amber Place at the front.
