Aside from winning a national championship this week, junior nickelback Kary Vincent Jr. gave LSU fans more exciting news: He’s staying in Baton Rouge for his senior year.
The 2017 Memorial High School graduate announced in a Twitter post his decision to play his senior season with the Tigers, which completed a 15-0 season with a 42-25 victory over Clemson in Monday night’s College Football Playoff national championship game in New Orleans.
“First, I want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to have a decision to make at all,” Vincent said. “Secondly, I would like to give thanks to my family, coaches/faculty, teammates and the fan base of Louisiana State University. Who shower me with their love & support, and motivate me to become the best version of myself.
“It has been an honor to be [a part] of something this special for the past 2.5 years. I will forever cherish my time here in this state that I have grown to love. As I close this chapter, as a CFB [college football] National Champion, I begin a new one feeling a great sense of triumph but also a desire for more.
“When I decided to make LSU my home I set forth a few goals for myself. One of which was to take hold of every opportunity given to me in hopes of evolving as a student, player, and young man. So I could walk away with my degree, and as a distinguished athlete equipped for the next level.
“Not being finished yet, I have decided to return to The Louisiana State University for my senior year. I look forward to finishing my degree and suiting up in Purple and Gold another season!”
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Vincent intercepted four passes as junior, including one against Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 28. The three-year letterman finished the season with 47 tackles (36 solo), including two for losses.
The Tigers were traveling to Washington, D.C., Thursday to visit President Trump, who attended Monday’s championship game, and members of the Louisiana delegation.
The White House visit will take place Friday, following a tour of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Visits to the White House are common for teams that win collegiate or professional sports championships.
