The Port Arthur Independent School District is opening all campuses on Monday.
It is PAISD’s understanding, a Sunday evening statement said, that two area school districts would not open due to over 500 students and teachers visiting Disney World during Spring Break.
“Such a large number of students with possible exposure and subject to quarantine has resulted in a shortage of staff who are parents of those students. PAISD anticipates that through staff surveys it will not have a shortage of staff and a small number of students will be absent due to travel during Spring Break,” a PAISD statement receives.
“The district will analyze the situation on a daily basis and make decisions on a daily basis. Employees and students who are ill are asked to remain at home.”
The Port Arthur Independent School District will implement daily screening of students and staff, as well as stringent sanitization efforts.
Students and staff who choose to remain home will not be penalized. Each day the district is planning to work with local health agencies to assess the situation and decide whether to remain open or close schools daily.
