GROVES — The name of a woman who died in a house fire in Groves has been released.
Justice of the Peace Joseph Guillory II identified the victim as Norma Cole. She died at the age of 83, just more than a month from her Christmas Day birthday, according to information from the Groves Police Department.
The call of the fire came in at 3:12 p.m. Friday for a home in the 6600 block of Madison. When firefighters arrived there were smoke and flames showing, Groves Fire Investigator Haden Grove said.
Grove said the home is a one-story residential structure.
Firefighters received assistance from Port Neches and Nederland fire departments and Acadian Ambulance. Texas Gas Service and Entergy were also at the scene.
Grove said firefighters found the victim when they entered the home.
No foul play is suspected at this time, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Justice of the Peace Guillory ordered an autopsy.
The last fatal house fire in Groves occurred Nov. 27, 2021, at a home in the 6200 block of Jefferson.
Grove said there were two people inside the home and one was able to get out on his own and fire crews pulled the other person out from the back porch. Both victims were transported to UTMB in Galveston, where one succumbed to injuries days later.
