Area man dies following head-on crash along West Port Arthur Road

A Beaumont motorist is dead following a head-on crash Wednesday near Port Arthur.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at approximately 8:35 a.m. Wednesday on West Port Arthur Road near Highland Drive.
Preliminary investigation shows a Volvo dump truck was traveling south, while a GMC Yukon was traveling north. It is reported the driver of the GMC failed to drive in a single lane and crossed over into the southbound lane, where he struck the dump truck head-on.
The driver of the Volvo, identified as Robert Cargile of Beaumont, was taken to a nearby hospital via personal vehicle for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the GMC, identified as 28-year-old Jonathan Doucet of Beaumont, was pronounced deceased on scene by Judge Ben Collins.
There was one passenger who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
This is an active investigation, police said Wednesday.
