PORT NECHES — A 31-year-old Port Arthur man is facing several criminal charges after allegedly running from police officers in Port Neches.
Port Neches Police Department officers responded at approximately 2 a.m. Thursday to the Palms Apartments regarding a suspicious person.
The person was described as wearing all black and leather gloves and was reportedly approaching people in the complex.
A responding officer located a person matching the description who also had a black mask and dark hood over his head, according to information from PNPD.
The suspect was asked to show his hands but began running while reaching into his waistband, police said.
Several officers ran after the man, who they believed was in possession of a firearm.
PNPD, assisted by Nederland Police, Groves Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, setup a perimeter around the areas and began a search.
During this time Central Dispatch told officers of a call from a resident saying someone was in their backyard. The man continued to evade police.
Officers ended up following a path of broken fence pickets and apprehended a man on Forest Oaks Drive
He was identified as Marcus Miles, 31, of Port Arthur.
He was reportedly found with a coin purse and a woman’s wallet.
He was placed under arrest and allegedly resisted officers’ efforts to place him in the vehicle, police said.
Miles is charged with evading arrest/detention with previous conviction (two prior convictions for evading arrest) and with resisting arrest/search or transport.
