VIDOR — At 5:39 p.m. Sunday, the Vidor Police Department received a call of a reckless vehicle that was described as a maroon Yukon traveling northbound in the 1400 block of North Main Street in Vidor.
At 5:40 p.m., the caller advised the Yukon struck another vehicle in the 1500 Block of North Main head-on.
Upon officers’ arrival, they found both drivers unconscious.
Officers realized the driver of the vehicle that was southbound was not breathing, according to Police Chief Rod Carroll.
Officers immediately removed her from the vehicle and initiated life-sustaining medical care.
“Unfortunately, their efforts were not successful, and the victim was declared deceased by Acadian Ambulance Service on-scene,” Carroll said in a release.
“The investigation shows that the Yukon was traveling at an excessive rate of speed when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck the other vehicle.”
The driver of the Yukon was taken to CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth
in serious condition.
“A toddler that was in the vehicle that was traveling southbound was restrained in a safety seat and transported to Christus St. Elizabeth in non-life-threatening condition,” Carroll said.
The collision is under investigation by the Vidor Police Traffic Unit and Criminal Investigation Unit.
Justice of the Peace Rodney Price arrived on-scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
