Suspected drunk driver remains hospitalized; services set for victims of fatal crash

The suspected drunk driver police believe is responsible for the deaths of two women remained hospitalized on Monday.
Salvador Gamez, 51, of Brownsville has been hospitalized since the double fatal crash Friday, according to information from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
The extent of his injuries was not available on Monday. Gamez is facing two counts of intoxication manslaughter, a felony offense, according to information from Texas Department of Public Safety.
Bond has not been set because Gamez was still hospitalized.
Preliminary investigation shows Gamez was traveling south in the northbound lane of U.S. 69 near mile marker 534 when he struck another vehicle head-on, killing the occupants.
The crash caused both vehicles to erupt into flames. DPS is investigating the crash.
Services for the victims, identified as Camille Marti, 21, of Beaumont, and Loren (Icenhower) Stacks, 25, of Beaumont, are set for Friday at The Apostolic Church of Beaumont.
The two women were friends and attended the same church. Stacks had recently married husband Chris Stacks and Marti had recently gotten engaged to fiancé Boston Carr.
To honor their memories, the Marvin & Marie Cole Memorial Prayer Garden will be serving as a memorial and gathering place for those who wish to bring memorial photos and have times of personal prayer and remembrance over the next few days, according to information from the church.
