Pat A. Riley, longtime supporter of Young Men’s Business League-South Texas Fair & Rodeo, and area businessman has died.

Riley, 72, died Saturday at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands.

Riley was long associated with YMBL spending time promoting the South Texas Fair & Rodeo and the events associated with the fair.

In 2017 Riley spoke with Port Arthur News as children who were guests of the American Cancer Society entered the fairgrounds early to have some fun.

“It’s something that YMBL can do to help others,” said Pat Riley, the fair’s spokesperson. “These kids may not be able to come out when all the other kids are out here.”

Riley also was involved with the Jefferson County Go Texan, a non-profit organization providing local scholarships to youth in the county.

He is also the former owner of Pat A. Riley Funeral Home. He sold the funeral home some years ago and it is now Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland.

Riley’s guestbook posted on Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville features condolences from a number of people.

Robery Burns of Austin said he spent a lot of time with Riley when they worked together at Levingston Funeral Home. While Burns went to work at Texaco Riley started his won business in an old dance studio.

Jacob Cook from South Carolina called Riley one of his favorite cousins.

“For years he had health problems, but as a true Riley man that did not hold him back from helping someone in need or making someone laugh. I will always have good memories of him,” Cook said in the guestbook.

Services for Pat A. Riley are pending with Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville.
