Southeast Texas anglers rejoice. Port Arthur has been named one of the top nine locations for fishing this Fourth of July.
Port Arthur earned the honor from FishingBooker, one of the nation’s leading platforms providing angling expeditions. The company wrote in a release,
“Known for its sun-kissed beaches, rich history, and abundant wildlife, Port Arthur offers a diverse range of activities for Independence Day. From relaxing on the sandy shoreline of Sea Rim State Park to exploring the feathery kingdom of McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge, there’s something for everyone. But the real highlight is the fishing. Whether you prefer beach casting, kayak fishing, or charter angling, Port Arthur promises enviable catches of redfish, trout, and flounder.”
Aside from Port Arthur, fishing destinations such as Seward, Alaska and Astoria, Oregon also made the list.
The brackish waters of Sabine Lake create a fertile ecosystem which has yielded some record-setting fish over the years. The largest flounder ever caught in Texas measured 13 pounds and came from the Sabine’s waters. The Texas record-setters for three species of catfish, bow and drum were all caught close to home in Sabine Lake, too.
For those interested in learning about angling, a shore fishing class will be offered at Sea Rim State Park on July 6 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
