The Port Arthur Fire Department responded to a house fire near the 3400 block of 34th Street in Port Arthur, July 17.
Battalion Chief Jay Fountain said neighbors called reported a fire at 12:14 p.m. Crews arrived on scene and extinguished the flames, though the home did suffer interior and exterior damage.
One firefighter suffered heat-related injuries and was treated on scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, though Fountain said it could be related to the effects of a thunderstorm which swept through the area during the afternoon. Neighbors told the fire department they heard a loud boom outside and experienced electrical issues during the storm.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire. According to neighbors, the homeowner is an older woman who has lived at a nursing home for several months.
