The Port Arthur Police Department is investigating a suspected road rage incident which left a man dead at the intersection of Highway 73 and Highway 69 in the early hours of August 10.
Port Arthur Police responded to a call around 2:30 a.m. reporting a body outside of a car on the roadside where Highway 73 exits toward Highway 69 South.
The victim, identified as 25-year-old Jaylin Johnson, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. ordered an autopsy.
Police say a woman, allegedly involved in the altercation, turned herself in shortly after. According to police, the woman told officials both she and Johnson fired shots. Police did not say which party fired first.
PAPD Chief Tim Duriso said they believe both vehicles may have had an additional passenger.
The case will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for consideration.
An investigation by the Port Arthur Police Department is ongoing. More details will be provided as they become available.
