The Lamar University Police Department detained a woman following reports of a possible firearm on campus, Sep. 16 — the firearm turned out to be a replica and nobody was injured.
The University initially issued a safety alert warning around 12:15 p.m. about a suspicious woman sighted on campus near Gentry Hall carrying what appeared to be a handgun. The alert advised students to shelter in place.
Police quickly responded and the woman was found in the library. She was taken into custody and is being questioned.
Police have not yet released her name. It is unknown whether charges will be filed.
The initial alert said a suspicious woman wearing army green, a long sleeve jacket, blue jeans, a utility belt with canteen, black boots and an army cap was spotted walking between Gentry Hall and the Dining Hall with a gun in hand.
