At 11 am Saturday, the National Hurricane Center released the initial advisory for a tropical storm. The system, which has been named Milton, has become a tropical storm with sustained winds of 40 mph after undergoing intensification from a tropical depression. Tropical Storm Milton is 210 miles north-northeast of Veracruz Mexico and 350 miles west of Progreso Mexico, with maximum sustained wind of 40 mph. It’s moving 3 mph to the north-northeast. Tropical Storm Milton is expected to strengthen.
The weather system had gained sufficient intensity to be named Milton. The tropical depression had upgraded to a tropical storm with winds of 40 mph.
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND:
SURF: Swells generated by the system will begin to affect the coast of the southwestern Gulf of Mexico today. These swells are expected to spread northward and eastward along much of the Gulf Coast by early next week. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
