PORT NECHES — The Bum Phillips Bowl Trophy can be viewed in person this week at MCT Credit Union, 2736 Nall St., Port Neches.

The trophy will be awarded to the winner of the Oct. 25 football game between district rivals Port Neches-Groves High and Nederland High School. Dubbed Mid County Madness, the game brings a fierce rivalry.

Elizabeth Dinscore, Karen Frederick, Malaina Garcia, and Michelle Minshew got an up close look at the trophy when it was delivered to the credit union this week.

Minshew said she is excited to be able to host the trophy this year.

“It’s a big draw for our credit union,” Minshew said. “We have a number of customers from both communities, Nederland and Port Neches and have branches in both communities. It’s a fun rivalry.”

Garcia is a die hard PNG fan so she’s rooting for the Indians in the big game.

“I’m a PNG Indian through and through,” Garcia said. She’s a 1983 graduate of PNG High School as well as her husband, parents, grandparents, uncles and grandkids.

Dinscore appreciates how the community come together.

“It’s like family,” Dinscore said. “And we may be against each other and fun rivals for a week but at the end of the game the next day, we’re just over the railroad tracks and friends and family again. It’s a friendly competition.”
