The Nederland Heritage Festival season kicks off this week with an after-hours mixer to honor this year’s Mr. Nederland, program dedication and announce this year’s theme.
Jimmy Collins was announced as the 2025 Mr. Nederland for his long-time dedication to the city of Nederland and to Babe Ruth Baseball. Collins has been a part of organized baseball nearly his entire life playing in little league all the way to senior Babe Ruth leagues. He also spent time coaching baseball since 18 with the Babe Ruth 13-15 division, and later transitioning to the older divisions. Collins also served a 40-year career with Motion Industries in Port Arthur before retiring in 2017.
“I’m grateful and I’m very humbled. This is a pretty good honor and I really appreciate it,” said Collins.”I’m proud and I’m honored to be Mr. Nederland on [my family’s] behalf.”
The 2025 Program was dedicated to Joe Howerton. Howerton first became involved with the Heritage Festival in 2003 in the ground departments. He became chairman of the grounds in 2005 and began serving on the executive board in 2013.
The theme for the festival is “Classic”. The Carnival begins March 11-16 with various events happening before and after the Carnival section.
“As with every year, we cannot wait to see each and every one of you and we encourage you to invite all of your friends and family to come out and enjoy the Nederland Heritage Festival,” said Angie Beard, Chairman of the Heritage Festival Committee.
