Election Filing Ends, Campaigns Kick Off

The time for election filling has ended for seats on local school boards, city council, port commissioners and two mayoral spots in the May 3 general election.
Here’s a look at the candidates as election season begins:
City of Port Arthur
The city of Port Arthur will hold an election for the purpose of electing a mayor. Current Mayor Thurman Bartie is finishing his second and final term.
Here are the candidates;

Port Arthur Independent School District
Two seats are up on the PAISD School Board. They are for incumbents Kimberly Wycoff-Johnson and Jacori Narcisse.
Four people have filed, Duante Grogan, Fonda Sanders Melissa Dickson and both incumbents Kimberly Johnson and Jacori Narcisse.
Port of Port Arthur Board of Commissioners
Two seats are up on the Port of Port Arthur Board of Commissioners. The seats are currently held by Raymond Johnson and Randy Martin.
As of Feb. 1 Both incumbents have filed as well as Reginald Trainer.

Sabine Pass Independent School District
Three seats are up for election on the Sabine Pass ISD Board of Trustees.
All three incumbents Ehtan Blood, Jennifer Blood and Nadine Williams have all filed for re-election and are unopposed.

Port of Sabine Pass
Three seats are up for election on the Port of Sabine Pass Board of Commissioners.
Information on filings was not immediately available Tuesday.

City of Nederland
The mayor’s seat and two councilmember seats are up for election for the city of Nederland.
Two people have filed for the mayoral seat. They are Jeff Darby and Emmett Hollier.
Ward 2 incumbent Sylvia Root has filed for reelection. Also filing is Britton Jones.
Ward 4 incumbents David Guillot and challenger Jeff Ortiz have filed for reelection.

Nederland Independent School District
Two seats are up for election on the Nederland Independent School District Board of Trustees.
Incumbent Nicholas Phillips has filed for reelection. Suzanne Isom and Todd Perkins have also filled.

Important dates
Filing is open from Jan. 15 to Feb. 14.
The last day to register to vote in the May 3 election is April 3.
Early voting is from April 22 to April 29.
Election Day is May 3.
