NEDERLAND — The rides are rolling into town and students will be out of school for spring break next week which means it’s time for the Nederland Heritage Festival.
The festival, which is in its 52nd year, is from March 11 to March 16 on historic Boston Avenue. NHF Executive Director Shannon Hemby said they are looking forward to a great year.
“I think it will be big this year,” Hemby said, adding that Passports to Fun sold out in a record five days. The passport, which grants the holder unlimited carnival rides, goes on sale Nov. 1 for the March event. Per contract with Gold Star Amusements they can sell 3,500.
The festival grounds do not have a gate and entry is free.
This year’s Cuisine Walk is in the square and all participants are nonprofit organizations — each one offering something different.
The Craft & Collectible Market, held March 15 and 16, is a popular stop for visitors. Hemby said the craft market sold out early this year and will be completely full on the weekend.
There will also be live entertainment during the event with DJ John L. Carter, Road House, Curse & the Cure, Pop Gun and Catalina Wine Mixer performing various nights.
“Come on out and listen to the free music, buy some food from a nonprofit and help them raise money for their cause,” she said.
