The Port of Port Arthur and the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce welcomed one of its newest tenants, Collins Engineers Inc., with a ribbon cutting ceremony recently.
The new location is located at 235 Procter St.
Beginning in 1979, a veteran-owned business, the business now has 27 US office locations with 400 employees. Collins provides engineering design and analysis services coupled with field experience to the transportation, marine, construction, and land development industries. A particular specialty includes diving and inspection services conducted by professional engineers. The downtown Port Arthur location represents the only office site in Texas, with 15 local employees serving customers in the area and supporting projects worldwide.
The relationship with the Port of Port Arthur dates back to 2010. Beginning with a structural inspection, their work has continued to incrementally grow via competitively bid contracts at the port and other customers. Other completed port tasks include project management for berth 5, and design and management of the port’s recent berth 6 construction. With the need for on-site presence, Collins worked out of project trailers for several years and in 2022 established an office at the Port Arthur EDC building.
“Collins’ leadership has supported our investment in Port Arthur. We’ve outgrown our space and see a need to increase our staff and support our operational needs in Texas and Louisiana, Port Arthur is our home.,” Michael Schneider, PE, Regional Manager, Collins Engineers Inc., said.
John Comeaux, president of the Port of Port Arthur, said they welcome Collins as another tenant of the Port of Port Arthur.
“It is great to see Collins’ investment in our community, developing their business in downtown Port Arthur,” Comeaux said. “As we acquire buildings near the port we evaluate the condition and potential impact on future port operations. Some dilapidated structures have been removed, eliminating blight in our community and some are rehabilitated for other use. As our maritime cargos grow, the port grows; adding jobs and local economic development. Collins’ lease is an excellent example of creating jobs while putting property back on the local tax rolls.”
