The Southeast YMCA officially reopened its pool after a hail storm damaged the roof the past summer.
“It’s amazing! ”Crystal Measowcroft, Director of Aquatics and Outdoor programs said.” It’s nice, it’s a little stressful, but it’s awesome to see everyone back in the pool again. We were really missing having people here.”
The pool was opened for a group of children as part of a spring break camp to help kids learn how to swim.
The Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce celebrated the return of the pool with a ribbon cutting ceremony, inviting community members from the area. Kevin Pearson, CEO of the Southeast YMCA, gave a speech about the importance of reopening the pool.
“Many years ago, I was an aquatics director and I was having a meeting with the old CEO and he said to me, ‘Kevin, do you know why we build pools with the YMCA?’,” Pearson said. “And he said ‘no’ and he said ‘ It is for one reason only, to teach children how to swim’. ”
The YMCA pool is available to all members of the YMCA and hours of operation are listed on the YMCA of Southeast Texas website.
