Arrest made in fatal shooting of Donesha Buckner, bond set at $1M

An arrest has been made in the Jan. 18 fatal shooting of Donesha Buckner.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Nerbert Frelow Jr., 56, in connection with the killing of Buckner, 33. Frelow surrendered himself at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility Wednesday following the issuance of the warrant, according to information from Port Arthur Police Department.  

Bond is set at $1 million, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

“The Port Arthur Police Department, in coordination with law enforcement partners, has been actively investigating the case and appreciates the community’s cooperation during the process,” PAPD said in a social media post.

PAPD initially responded to a call of a medical crisis Jan. 18 at Normandy Apartments, in the 3800 block of Normandy Drive. Buckner was rushed to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas where it was discovered she had been shot. Attempts to save Buckner were unsuccessful. 

Buckner is survived by siblings, parents and grandparents, a fiancée of 16 years and six children as well as other extended family.
