NEDERLAND — The Nederland Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Get To Know the Candidates Forum at 6 p.m. Tuesday at First Methodist Church Family Center located on Nederland Avenue and 13th Street.

Angel San Juan will serve as emcee for the evening.

The forum will be a relaxed and friendly event to let residents get to know the candidates and hopefully encourage them to go out and vote, organizers said. 

Each candidate will have five minutes to introduce themselves and talk about what they hope to accomplish if elected.

After all candidates have spoken there will be a casual Q&A with the attendees one on one. 

There are multiple races in Nederland for the May 3 election. 

Two people have filed for the mayoral seat. They are Jeff Darby and Emmett Hollier.  

Ward 2 incumbent Sylvia Root will face Britton Jones.

Ward 4 incumbent David Guillot will face Jeff Ortiz. 

There are two seats up for grabs in the Nederland Independent School District race and three candidates have filed. They include incumbents Nicholas Phillips and Suzanne Isom and challenger Todd Perkins.
