Groves, TX — On April 4, at approximately 12:55 P.M., officers from the Groves Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious package at Walgreens, located at 4746 Twin City Highway. An individual reportedly left the item to be mailed via Walgreen’s FedEx mailing service. Walgreens employees felt that certain aspects of the package were suspicious and called 9-1-1. The intended recipient was President Donald Trump, according to the package.
After the initial evaluation by the GPD, the Department requested assistance from the Explosives Hazards Task Force Response Team, composed of units from the Houston Police Department, Port Arthur Fire Department, and U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. The Task Force’s assessment determined that no threat of an explosion or explosive device existed. As part of standard protocol, the Port Arthur Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team also responded to investigate additional potential risks associated with biological hazards.
No members of the public or emergency responders were injured during this event, and authorities have determined that there is no threat to the public or staff. The sender of the package has been cooperative, and officials have concluded that the package was not dangerous and that the sender did not commit a crime.
“We appreciate the cooperation of the public and Walgreens staff as we work to ensure safety in our community. We want to especially thank the GFD, Houston Police Department, Port Arthur Fire Department, U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the U.S. Secret Service for their critical support during this event.” Groves Police Department will provide any updates as the situation warrants.” Groves City Marshal Chris Robin said.
