Inmate death reported at US Penitentiary in Beaumont

BEAUMONT — An inmate at the United States Penitentiary in Beaumont was found unresponsive and has died.
Responding employees initiated life-saving measures. Emergency medical services were requested while life-saving efforts continued. The inmate, identified as Amadeo M. Lailes, 31, was transported by EMS to a local
hospital and subsequently pronounced dead by hospital personnel.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified.
No employees or other incarcerated individuals were injured and at no time was the public in danger, according to the news release. A preliminary cause of death was not listed.
Lailes was sentenced in the District of New Mexico to a 72- month sentence for bank robbery. He had been in custody at USP Beaumont since March 11,
2024.
USP Beaumont is a high security facility.
